Wknd Campaign Kick-offs & Sept 14 Gen. Mtg

September 14 General Membership meeting

Sept 14th MeetingLGBT Community Center, 1800 Market St.

On September 14 at 6:30pm, our general membership meeting will be all about Field! With the November election rapidly approaching, Alice’s field program is ramping up. Our field team will walk through our program, go over the basics of “Field 101”, and get Alice members signed up to volunteer.

We will also be voting on early endorsements for two races in the November 8, 2016 election – Scott Wiener for CA State Senate District 11 and Kamala Harris for U.S. Senate. Voting will be open from 6:30 – 7:30 PM. Mark your calendars for another great general membership meeting.

We also want to wish all who are celebrating Rosh Hashanah a happy new year and are grateful for your understanding as we hold this meeting on the first night of the Jewish New Year.

Just hearing the date of September 11th makes me catch my breath, even after fourteen years. I distinctly remember that morning, hearing from a neighbor while walking my dog that a plane had hit the World Trade Center. I returned to my house in time to watch the second tower collapse, and then learn about the Pentagon attack. One of my closest friends and Naval Academy classmates was in the Pentagon at the time of the attack – she helped evacuate the dead and wounded and render first aid. Another classmate, Patrick Dunn, was killed. Many other folks I know lost friends and family in the World Trade Center or United flight 93 that crashed in a Pennsylvania field. Whether we knew a victim or a first responder personally or not, the entire country was deeply impacted by the events of September 11, 2001. We were united as a nation as we stood up to denounce the attack and respond to the tragedy.

May we use these memories to remind us to cherish every day, and to find ways to touch the lives of others. At a recent LGBT Roundtable organized by Nancy Pelosi, the Democratic Leader reminded us that one of the most powerful ways to make a difference is thru legislation, which is done by our elected officials, who are elected at the ballot box. Change begins at the ballot box. We at Alice hope you not only make a difference by exercising your right to vote on or before November 3rd, but also help us in our Field campaign to distribute our voter guides and encourage others to vote. Find out more on how to get involved at our membership meeting Monday, September 14th.

In loving memory of those lost on 9/11,

Zoe Dunning
Co-Chair
