I first became involved in the Harvey Milk LGBT Democratic Club. But began to realize that many of the people in my community whom I admired, were active in Alice. I was drafted by Robert Barnes and Martha Knutzen & Fran Kipnis to come to Alice and get involved. Where I received the best of community political educations and made political allies who became lifelong friends.
Esther Lee and I were the last Alice Co-chairs to serve two years together. After our term, the board developed the concept of staggering/ over-lapping co-chair terms, which I think is a brilliant way to nurture and support new leadership, while also providing continuity for the club.
