June Co-Chairs' Report
V O T E
AS IF THE WELL-BEING OF YOUR COMMUNITY DEPENDED UPON IT.
BECAUSE IT DOES.
- Send a strong message of support for Nancy Pelosi, our Congressperson from District 8 and the first woman elected as Speaker of the U.S. House of Representatives.
- Keep District 12 Congresswoman Jackie Speier in Washington to work with Speaker Pelosi to end the War and enact legislation that reflects Bay-Area values.
- Send Assemblymember Mark Leno, author of the original marriage-equality legislation, to the California Senate to continue to fight for the rights of all San Franciscans.
- Keep Fiona Ma in the California Assembly to continue her work to protect the health of all Californians.
- Send Tom Ammiano to the California Assembly so that he can continue his efforts to achieve universal health care and economic justice.
- Vote in support of an independent Democratic Central Committee by supporting Alice’s endorsed candidates.
- Vote “Yes” on California Proposition 99 which protects homeowners from eminent domain abuse and vote “No” on 98.
- Vote “Yes” on these San Francisco Propositions:
- Prop A to increase funding for our Schools;
- Prop B, reform of City retirement healthcare benefits;
- Prop D, a policy statement in favor of diversity on City Boards and Commissions;
- Prop E, the Charter Amendment that would change the process for appointing members to the PUC, set qualifications for commission members and require approval of appointees by majority of the Board of Supervisors; and
- Prop G, the Bayview Jobs, Parks & Housing Initiative endorsed by hundreds of City residents, the S.F. Labor Council and a multitude of elected officials including Bayview-Hunters Point Supervisor Sophie Maxwell.
- Vote “No” on these ballot measures:
- California Proposition 98, which eliminates rent control, makes it easier to evict people in favor of new developments and contains loopholes that endanger the environment;
- San Francisco Proposition F, the “poison pill” measure that requires unrealistic levels of below-market housing and undermines community development in Bayview-Hunters Point; and
- San Francisco Proposition H, a redundant measure that provides no actual reform.
YOUR VOTE COUNTS FOR YOU AND OUR COMMUNITY.

Reese's World: Perspectives from the Editor
4 Minutes to Save the World by Reese Aaron Isbell, M.P.P. (featuring Madonna, Justin Timberlake, and Timbaland)
Minute 1: Vote Absentee, either by mail or at City Hall. Now. It takes only one minute of your time. You don't have to worry about it on June 3rd itself. And you can concentrate your election day on getting out the Alice vote!
Minute 2: Use your second minute to contact the Field Committee by emailing fieldcomm@gmail.com and get involved in this exciting political season!
Minute 3: After contacting the Field Committee make plans to walk a precinct, help staff a table for Alice, or plan to phonebank with Alice. You can do it! Alice needs to spread its endorsements throughout the City and your help in walking a precinct or staffing a table will go a long way to getting out the Alice vote!
Minute 4: Tell your boss you need to take Election Day off. Plan to help Alice mobilize on election day and get out those Alice endorsements. Walk, table, phone, stand outside the Castro MUNI stop with Alice flyers, help GOTV on this final day, election day, June 3rd!
4 Minutes to Save the World. 4 Minutes to get out the Alice vote. You can do it. Alice needs you. 4 Minutes to Save the World.

Alice Field Update: Help Get Out The Alice Vote
Alice has been out promoting its full slate of endorsements for the June election and needs you in this final week before the election on June 3rd to help GOTV! We are continuing our tradition of aggressively supporting our endorsed candidates and positions with a strong Field Campaign led by our fabulous Field Co-Chairs Rodney Clara and LaMonte' Bishop and Member extraordinaire Larry Handerhan. Contact the Field Committee by emailing fieldcomm@gmail.com and get involved in this exciting political season!
The Field Team wants to hear from you, and to know what interests you have in joining Alice in the field this spring. Volunteer field activities will include:
tabling
flyering events
phonebanking
precinct walking
...among many other opportunities to support Alice's endorsements.
If you would like to help volunteer for these efforts, please contact our Field Committee team by emailing fieldcomm@gmail.com to let them know of your interests (as mentioned above) and for more information.
The Field Committee has already been out every weekend this April and May and has visibility plans for this upcoming very first weekend in June before the June 3rd election.
Let the Field Committee know your availability by emailing fieldcomm@gmail.com for the following Saturdays and Sundays for tabling and flyering specifically:
This Saturday, May 31
This Sunday, June 1
The Field Committee also is working with our endorsed candidates and campaigns to solidify a coordinated list of further volunteer activities and would love to contact you specifically as these details are finalized about how you can help Alice. As part of that additional commitment to our endorsed candidates, the Field Committee has organized a phonebank each Wednesday night at the Mark Leno for Senate headquarters at 2344 Market Street from 5:30-8:30pm and will have one final one this Wednesday, May 28th.
Alice is also walking many precincts and still needs more walked. If you can take a precinct or two this week, please contact the Field Committee. This is the final week to do it before the election.
Please let us know your specific interests in signing up for any of the above dates and field activities by emailing fieldcomm@gmail.com.
Alice is strong because of you!

As We Celebrate, The Fight Continues by Seth Kilbourn
"In light of the fundamental nature of the substantive rights embodied in the right to marry -- and their central importance to an individual's opportunity to live a happy, meaningful, and satisfying life as a full member of society -- the California Constitution properly must be interpreted to guarantee this basic civil right to all individuals and couples, without regard to their sexual orientation."
- California Supreme Court Chief Justice Ron George
"As we have said before, any accommodation of the homosexual agenda is a 'give an inch, take a mile' proposal and will be used to accomplish their ultimate goal, which is not just same-sex 'marriage,' but the destruction of the institution of marriage."
- The Patriot Post
Those two quotes say it all. While we celebrate the landmark decision by the California Supreme Court allowing gay and lesbian couples to marry, those who oppose the Court's powerful acknowledgment of the dignity of our love and relationships are determined to turn back the clock. They have already submitted what appear to be enough signatures to place a constitutional amendment on the November ballot that could nullify our victory.
Equality for All is a large and diverse coalition of civil rights, faith, choice, labor and community of color organizations working to defeat this ballot initiative. Please visit www.equalityforall.com for more information, to volunteer and to contribute to the campaign. We can only defeat the attacks against us by spreading the word and growing our grassroots support.
Our most urgent need is money. Since the Court ruling, we've received many generous small (and some not so small!) contributions adding up to hundreds of thousands of dollars. But our opponents have vowed to raise $10 to $15 million, and we need to match them at least dollar for dollar. We can do it if we all dig deep and contribute what we can. If you are already planning your big day, instead of gifts, consider asking your friends and family to contribute to Equality For All!
We have all sacrificed for this day. A day when we all have the freedom to marry the person we love, but we cannot rest. It's critical we continue to build the campaign to fight this initiative. Many of our friends and family don't know that the freedom to marry we just won is already under threat. Talk with them, let them know about Equality For All and encourage them to get involved.
Fighting together, we can ensure equality for all and make the dream we realized in the Court's historic decision a reality that endures.
Seth Kilbourn works for Equality for All.
