“As a first time candidate and the first woman to run for the office of Sheriff of San Francisco, I am thrilled to be endorsed by the Alice B. Toklas Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, Democratic Club. The club is thoughtful, strategic and inclusive, and the many candidates for office they have supported over the years have contributed greatly to the well being of all San Franciscans.
I’m proud to be a member of the first class that actively recruited women and men of color, as well as lesbians and gays. I formed life-long friendships with many of my colleagues including Connie O’Connor, who was president of the club in the early 1980s. I was inspired by candidates like Harvey Milk, and also deeply saddened by the death of many of my friends and co-workers during the height of the AIDS epidemic.
The new friends I have made while campaigning, as well as the endorsement of my candidacy, are both important to me. I am honored by the confidence of the Club. I look forward to having your support on the campaign trail.”
