ALICE HONORS DISTRICT ATTORNEY GEORGE GASCÓN AND WOMEN’S GROUPS FOR STANDING UP AGAINST DOMESTIC VIOLENCE IN 2012
Alice’s Annual Fall Awards Honors Those Who Build & Serve Our Community and Attendees to Offer Suggested Donations to Honoree La Casa de las Madres
On November 14th, the Alice B. Toklas LGBT Democratic Club will host its annual Fall Awards program in the Castro. Please join Alice as it honors those who stood up for the law, for women, and for those in need who often do not have a voice.
Alice’s Elected Official Awardee District Attorney George Gascón will be commended for his dedication to swift justice and the law in protecting women and the larger community against domestic violence.
Alice’s Community Public Service Awards go to three groups together: La Casa de las Madres, the Domestic Violence Consortium, and the San Francisco Commission on the Status of Women who each deserve great praise for their year-long dedication to speaking out against violence against women and children, and never equivocating under great political and media scrutiny.
Additional honorees Wednesday night will include the Leadership Award given to former Co-Chair Bentrish Satarzadeh for her years of service to the strengthening of the Alice infrastructure and ushering through its message through several contentious San Francisco electoral seasons. Volunteers of the Year include Treasurer Juan Cerda and the Co-Chairs of the Political Action Committee, Kelton Finney and Ron Flynn. Alice Emeritus Board Members Anna Damiani and Jerry Fuller will be honored with special commendations for their dedication to the Club.
Finally, the Robert Barnes Lifetime Achievement Award will go to Former PUC Director Ed Harrington as he retires after decades of service to San Francisco and it’s PUC operations. 2012 also marks the 10th anniversary of the passing of former Alice Board member and mentor to many, Robert Barnes, and the Awards Ceremony will make a special recognition to his life and legacy.
The Fall Awards this year will be a non-ticketed event with attendees given an option of donating $25 or more to La Casa de las Madres upon entrance to the event. The full list of awards and further details are below. Honorees will attend. (continued below)
