Just three weeks after the historic decision in the Perry v Schwarzenneger overturning Proposition 8, leading LGBT activist KATE KENDELL will speak at the Commonwealth Club of California on August 26, 2010. The program will start at 6:00 p.m. with an informal wine and cheese reception beforehand starting at 5:15 pm.
Kate’s leadership of NCLR has changed history. Kate and NCLR’s thought leadership, legal talent and astute analysis is discernably present in the Perry case too. NCLR, along with other non-profit organizations, filed an amicus brief with Judge Walker arguing that Proposition 8 violates the federal Constitution. Among other topics to be discussed, Kate will give us a first hand, behind the scenes commentary on the coordinated effort that led to this landmark victory.
Kate’s leadership was recognized earlier this year by the League of Women Voters naming her one of the Women Who Could Be President. She is an exceptionally bright star of our times.
Kate’s appearance at the Commonwealth Club is part of a month-long (August 2010) series called the Ascent of Woman which examines the rise, contribution, leadership, and lives of extraordinary women in our lives. The LGBT Member Led Forum is delighted and proud that Kate will honor us with her wisdom, insight, and presence on August 26.
We hope you will join us too.
